We are a free matching service, not a moving company
MoveLantern helps people across the United States plan a move and get matched, at no cost, with licensed, vetted movers. We do not move belongings, pack boxes, store goods, or perform any moving work ourselves. We are not a moving company, broker of record, insurer, attorney, or government agency.
Information is general and educational
Everything on this site - guides, checklists, cost ranges, and tools - is general information to help you plan. It is not legal, insurance, tax, or professional advice for your specific situation. Rules, prices, and what can be moved vary by your home, your distance, the season, your city, and your state.
Costs are estimates, never quotes or guarantees
Any cost figures we mention are typical US ranges for planning only. They are not quotes, and they are not guarantees. The only number that matters is the written estimate a licensed mover gives you after seeing what you are moving. Always get your estimate in writing, and understand whether it is binding, non-binding, or not-to-exceed before you sign.
Licensing matters
Movers that carry household goods across state lines must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and have a USDOT number. MoveLantern aims to connect you with licensed, vetted movers, but you should always confirm a mover's license and insurance yourself before you hire. We do not control, employ, or guarantee the work, conduct, pricing, or outcome of any mover you choose.
Your choice, your decision
Being matched with a mover is never an obligation to hire them. You choose who to contact and who to hire. MoveLantern is not responsible for agreements you make with a mover or for the results of any move. If you have a dispute with a mover, contact the mover directly, your state's consumer-protection office, or the FMCSA for interstate moves.
